    Finance Partner

You've got the numbers. We turn them into decisions.

A strategic finance partner and outsourced Finance Director alongside your team, turning charity management accounts, forecasting and cashflow planning into confident board reporting and long-term financial sustainability.

    Sharper decisions, stronger reserves
Board meetings driven by insight, not admin
Clear direction on cash, risk and growth
More funding reinvested into your mission

Good bookkeeping isn't the same as financial clarity

Many charities have someone capable keeping the books, but the numbers never quite become a story trustees understand or a plan the CEO feels confident acting on.

Reports go out on time, but non-finance stakeholders can't really engage with them.

The CEO and board are making decisions without a clear view of cashflow or scenarios.

Finance is treated as a compliance chore, not a strategic asset.

Your in-house team is stretched and lacks senior charity-finance expertise to lean on.

Trustees ask good questions, and nobody feels fully equipped to answer them.

You know the numbers are right, but you can't yet tell a confident story with them.

Sharper reporting, stronger boards, better decisions

A senior charity-finance layer that sits on top of your existing bookkeeping, without replacing it.

    Management accounts, presented with clarity

Reports designed so non-finance stakeholders feel confident asking questions. Clear commentary, meaningful KPIs and a narrative that actually explains what the numbers mean.

    Monthly walkthroughs with your CEO

A structured monthly conversation with your CEO to talk through the draft reports, the actions they suggest, emerging risks and the trends worth acting on early.

    Cashflow visibility

We walk leaders through what's coming in, what's going out and, importantly, why the timing matters. No more month-end surprises or cash conversations happening too late.

    Scenario analysis

Worst, likely and best case, modelled properly. Trustees see the consequences of their decisions before they make them, which changes the quality of every board conversation.

    Empowered budget holders and trustees

Budget holders, senior leaders and trustees engage with finance directly. Sharper questions in board meetings, stronger governance, and a shared understanding of the numbers across the whole leadership team.

In the room at your board meetings

We genuinely love being invited to board meetings. When trustees want us there, we join, present the numbers in plain English, answer questions live and help the board make confident, informed decisions in the moment.

    A true finance partnership

Finance Partner is a human, collaborative, personable relationship delivered virtually. Experienced charity accountants who sit alongside your team, grow with you as you take on increasing complexity, and share one goal: financial sustainability, so you can reinvest reserves into your mission and the communities you serve.

    Who Finance Partner is for

Charities with an existing bookkeeper or small finance team who need the reporting, confidence and strategic layer on top, not full outsourcing.

    • You already have an in-house bookkeeper or finance person keeping day-to-day records.
    • Your CEO wants sharper reporting and stronger conversations with trustees.
    • Your board is ready to engage with finance, given the right information and support.
    • You want a senior charity-finance partner working alongside your team as a trusted extension of it.
    • You believe better numbers should mean more impact, not more overheads.
    A story from the boardroom

The trustee who stopped nodding along

A few years ago we started working with a mid-sized UK charity whose board had a quietly brilliant trustee. He was a respected leader in his field, deeply committed to the cause, and had sat on the board for several years. He also had dyslexia, and he had never told anyone how much the finance papers were costing him.

Dense tables, tiny fonts, restricted-fund columns, variance percentages, reserves policies written in accountant-speak. By the time he had wrestled his way through the pack, the meeting had already moved on. So he did what a lot of trustees quietly do. He nodded along, trusted the executive, and hoped the questions he had were being asked by someone else.

When we came in as Finance Partner, we sat down with him privately, listened, and rebuilt how finance reached the board. Cleaner layouts. Plain-English commentary. A short narrative at the top of every pack explaining what had changed, what it meant, and where the risks were. Fewer numbers on the page, more insight per number. Colour, spacing and structure designed for people who think in stories, not spreadsheets.

We also spent time with him one-to-one before each board meeting, walking through the pack, answering the "silly" questions that were never silly, and helping him build a mental model of how the charity's money actually moved.

Within a couple of cycles, something shifted. He started asking sharper questions than anyone else in the room. About reserves. About the assumptions behind the cashflow. About whether a particular grant was really covering its true cost. His fellow trustees noticed. The CEO noticed. Governance got stronger, because a thoughtful, values-driven trustee finally had the confidence to challenge constructively instead of quietly deferring.

That is what Finance Partner is really for. Not just better reports, but better trustees, better challenge, and better decisions for the communities charities exist to serve.
